Science is nothing if not efficient. Currently, researchers are trying to find ways to put all the health benefits of red wine into pills that you can ingest.

Yes, a pill. With red wine in it.

The drink not only makes you tell all your friends and crushes you love them, but also contains Resveratrol, an ingredient that can protect against heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and diabetes. In fact, the health benefits of a glass of red wine at dinner have long been celebrated.

But, the amounts in wine are too diluted to really make much of an impact. To get enough to slow down the effects of Alzheimer’s disease, for example, you would have to drink 1,000 bottles of wine.

Instead, researchers are trying to concentrate Resveratrol into pill form. They want to prevent it from being broken down too quickly in the liver, and are planning on testing their current findings with Alzheimer’s disease and Friedreich’s ataxia. Basically, the pills would give you all the benefits that wine has to offer without the massive hangover that would come with drinking 1,000 bottles of it.

We’re excited about all the work that is being done to reduce the effects of so many diseases. But still, can someone just go grab another bottle already?
