Oprah Winfrey reveals the one thing she changed about dieting that empowered her to lose more weight
Well this is just the sort of body image motivation we need in the new year. Weight Watchers newest spokeswoman Oprah Winfrey just opened up about her weight loss journey and reveals she didn’t have a goal weight in mind which is actually sort of refreshing.
In Weight Watchers January/February issue, Winfrey talked all about her path to her current weight, which is 42 lbs. lighter than she was when she began the program in 2015. In fact, she explained that by going into the process without a specific goal, she didn’t have the added pressure that normally comes with a diet.
“Before, when I was 150 pounds, I’d imagine getting up to 200 lbs., and think, ‘Oh my God.’ But now I think, ‘I never thought that at 200 lbs. I could look in the mirror and love my body, love myself, not chide and minimize myself for being 200 lbs.,'” Winfrey told Weight Watchers magazine via E! Online.
“At 200 lbs., I was OK. I have never, ever, ever been at that point. And then at 190 lbs., I was OK. If I don’t lose another pound right now, I’m still OK,” she explained. “The fullness of life, the fullness of being, the self-acceptance — I’d never done that before. I’d always beaten myself up because I was tied to a number.”
Despite not living by the number on the scale, Winfrey did decide to create some sort of focus once the pounds began coming off.
“When the weight started to come off, I needed to get clear on my intention. I could lose weight to fit a dress size, or attend an event, or to make other people like me. But I couldn’t keep it off for those reasons,” Winfrey told the publication.
The Greenleaf actress has a new motto and approach to life now that she’s on a healthier path. It’s “about having reverence for this body, this journey, this life, and every step you take,” she said.
Preach, Oprah, preach! Now this is a motto we can get behind in 2017…even if losing weight isn’t one of our New Year’s resolutions.
