If you’ve ever dealt with the discomfort of constricting workout pants or a sports bra that restricts too much, you’re going to love this news. Naked gym classes are now offered in New York City, so you can get your fitness on without worrying about clingy, too-tight workout gear ruining your vibe.
And try as we might, it can also be easy to get down on ourselves and our bodies while at the gym since there can be so much emphasis on “perfection.” But these naked fitness classes are proving that body positivity can totally exist in a gym setting.
Beginning this week, SoHo fitness studio Hanson Fitness (which boasts some pretty famous clients, including Rihanna, Julia Roberts, and Tom Cruise), will be offering naked training sessions three times a week. One class will be exclusively for women, one class will be exclusively for men, and the third will be gender-inclusive, according to their Facebook page.
In a press release, the studio said the classes will be a “total body workout that uses your body weight as resistance to work the glute, butt, legs and core — making you look and feel good naked.”
Studio owner Harry Hanson explains, “Our approach makes sure our members get and stay in the absolute best shape, and our new naked personal fitness sessions are no exception. This new development brings with it a range of fitness and health benefits and allows our members to have a little cheeky fun in the process.” For those feeling a bit uncomfortable with the idea of being butt naked in a group workout setting, the studio will allow nude-colored underwear to be worn.
While it might seem like a bizarre concept, naked yoga already exists in NYC, so it seems there’s already a market for the trend.
We totally understand if this particular new workout, but we’re hoping these types of classes will help encourage body positivity, comfort, and acceptance. Plus: less laundry. Win-win all around!
