Did you think you reached your peak love for Hilary Duff when she was on Lizzie McGuire? Or when she made her TV comeback as the edgy Kelsey on Younger? Or maybe it was with one of her many songs? Well, whatever it is about her that makes you a fan, we’ve got another reason for you to bow down to her because Duff took on body shaming on her Instagram, and her post will make you adore her all the more.
Since she has been in the spotlight for more than half of her life, Duff has experienced criticism about her body over the years. That’s sadly only been compounded by the fact that she had a child — since Duff told Redbook in 2015 that tabloids were “mean” and “invasive” about her post-baby body after she had her son Luca.
But Duff has no time for the haters. Her Instagram post speaks up for all women who have ever been body-shamed — and stops any potential body shamers in their tracks.
The photo shows Duff from behind on the beach, holding her 5-year-old son. She writes how she’s enjoying her vacation, but figured she’d acknowledge her “flaws” before publications have a chance to.
Although she wrote this “on behalf of young girls, women, and mothers of all ages,” considering that women are more frequently the targets of body-shaming, we think her lovely, empowering message is applicable to anyone who has ever lacked confidence in their body.
But Duff wasn’t going to let the people who have shamed her for her body off the hook. She wrapped up the post by writing:
And the hashtag was just oh-so perfectly paired with her cheeky photo.
This isn’t the first time that Duff has spoken about the importance of embracing your body. And we sincerely hope it isn’t the last because her post had just the right mix of self-confidence and sass.
And you know what we have to say to anyone who would body shame Hilary Duff or anyone else?
Pucker up. 😘
