Emma Stone got real about her anxiety and how "I never thought I'd be able to leave home"
Anxiety is something that many of us deal with. Facing it head on can be hard at first, but there are many people who have done it and continue to work at it. Emma Stone gets candid about her anxiety in a new campaign video for the nonprofit Child Mind Institute, sharing that it’s always been something that she’s lived with, and it “flares up in big ways” at different times in her life. She goes on to explain how crucial it was for her to learn about different tools to deal with her symptoms.
She continued, “It ebbs and flows in such a way that as I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned how to manage it with so many tools — there are so many tools you can learn for it that have lead to me living a pretty normal and exciting and vibrant life. [And] as a kid, I truly did not think I would be able to ever move away from home or be apart from people that I had separation anxiety with.”
She goes on to share that therapy has helped a lot with her anxiety, and “cognitive behavioral tools” like meditation have also made a difference.
That’s what we like to hear!
via giphyWhether or not you deal with anxiety-related issues, meditation and therapy are both very positive things to try in times of stress. We all lead busy lives, and sometimes just taking a few moments to stretch our muscles and practice stillness can be very satisfying and offer a renewed perspective on a situation.
The other big thing we take away from Stone is that everyone deals with something, whether it’s visible on the outside or not. But we can help one another by being sensitive, active listeners.
So on this happy Friday, let’s continue supporting each and never being afraid to ask for help!
