How much water is too much? One UK woman found out the hard way that, yes, sometimes you can have too much of a good thing — even water.

The woman started to feel symptoms of an oncoming UTI – been there – and thought she could “flush it out” by drinking a whole bunch of H2O: More than a cup every 30 minutes. As it turns out, that is way too much liquid for your body to handle, and it sent the woman to the hospital with sodium levels low enough to be considered fatal.

A good guideline to follow is the recommended 64oz  a day – about 8 oz, or a small cup, every hour. Up your intake on hot days or when you’re exercising: No one wants to be hospitalized for dehydration, either.
