With beach season stretching out as far as the eye can see (well, until September anyway), most of us are brimming with the motivation to emerge from our cocoon of blankets and binge-watching sessions and get back to living an active, healthy(ish) lifestyle.

So, in the spirit of feeling like our best selves, we spoke to HelloGiggles’ News Editor Toria Sheffield to get a sense of her morning routine and tips for feeling your best. Hint: It involves lots of clean eating and a little something called Amazing Grass.

How does your typical morning start?
I’m pretty lucky; working from home gives me the luxury of starting my workday by rolling out of bed and turning on my computer, though I still have to wake up at 7:30 to start at 8. I get dressed, fix breakfast, and start scoping out the latest breaking stories to assign.

Do you consider yourself a morning person?
I actually do! But I try to get in as many winks as I can because my day starts relatively early (and let’s face it — I don’t always get to bed as early as I’d like).

What do you usually make for breakfast?
I don’t have a ton of time in between waking up and starting work so I’m ALL about the convenience. I’ll grab a Greek yogurt with some seasonal berries and nuts thrown in because it requires zero prep.

I also throw down when it comes to getting in my daily nutrients and antioxidants, but there are only so many blueberries one can eat! It’s easier to just drink them, like in a smoothie or with a glass of water. Yeah — it’s pretty awesome! And when you’re someone like me, who’s genuinely concerned with nutrition but doesn’t want to spend time prepping and organizing, it’s super simple and convenient. Usually it’s hard to get both in life, so Amazing Grass has kind of been a revelation. A single scoop sends my vitamin quota for the day through the roof.

And it’s made a difference in your day?
Absolutely. A lot of it comes from knowing I’ve done something good for my body first thing in the morning; it keeps me motivated to keep treating it right all day. I definitely feel more energized, but I also found that I have way fewer digestive issues than I used to, and I actually feel good in the afternoon (instead of desperate for a nap!).

It helps that Amazing Grass comes in a ton of different flavors, which I’m so thankful for, because being bored with your breakfast in the morning is not a great way to start the day. It’s pretty easy to mix things up with options like tangerine and lemon-lime.

Are there any other superfoods you swear by?
Oh, for sure! This is kind of my favorite topic. Summer specifically is amazing for berries because they’re in season. I also think everyone should keep nuts on hand — they make a great snack and prevent you from eating something your body doesn’t really want just because you’re hungry. I also swear by half an avocado a day!

Do you have a nighttime routine?
I always try to wash my face, moisturize, and floss. I don’t always succeed, but I’m way better at it than I used to be. I’ve also started using a blue light filter app on my phone, which is supposed to help calm your brain after it gets dark. It allows me to check my phone in bed without feeling wide-awake.
