What do you do when you’ve got a cupboard under the stairs? Transform it into a Harry Potter wonderland, of course.

Children’s librarian Courtney Bonnet moved to her home in Pennsylvania with her family back in June, and she almost immediately noticed that it had a cupboard under the stairs. “I first noticed it when we came to an open house last year but I wasn’t crazy about the rest of the house,” Courtney told BuzzFeed. “Our realtor brought us back again because my husband loved the house. He convinced me but only after agreeing I could turn the space into a Harry Potter–themed room.”

Sounds like a pretty legit stipulation to us! So Courtney went to work. Although she was inspired by the cupboard under the stairs where Harry lived at 4 Privet Drive, it certainly turned out more luxurious than Harry’s tiny residence — after all, it’s for her kids.

“[My two boys] love the room. They play hide-and-seek and their friends love to check it out when they come over,” Courtney told BuzzFeed.

She put a “Wizards Only” sign on the door, as well as the house crests for Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. She also hung up a Harry Potter poster and covered the wall with pages from the Harry Potter books (but from books that had already been damaged — a librarian would never ruin good books, after all!).

Initially, the closet had been uncarpeted, with a big hole in the drywall. Pretty plain indeed. But Courtney took a full eight days to completely redo it into a magical world for her kids.

“I just love Harry Potter and books and reading,” she explained. “I am pretty crafty and handy around the house so I figured why not? What kid wouldn’t want their own secret room?”

Ultimately, she wants this room to inspire her kids and help them escape into the series that she has always loved so much. “I want my kids to enjoy books and reading and see what an impact books can have on a person’s life. This series really changed my life, she told BuzzFeed. “I look forward to reading the Harry Potter series to my boys in the cupboard.”

If there was a parenting NEWT, we would give Courtney “Exceeds Expectations.” We’re sure J.K. Rowling would be proud. (Also, can we come visit? Please and thank you.)
