We love it when smart people come together, but this is a combo we never saw coming. Neil DeGrasse Tyson and George R.R. Martin are teaming up to work on a video game together, and we can’t even imagine how cool it’s going to be.

Tyson originally talked about the game, currently called Space Odyssey, at last year’s Comic-Con. But these days, he’s making it real with a Kickstarter campaign. What made him want to work with Martin? Well, the world-building he’s created for Game of Thrones, of course.

Tyson went on to say that even the dragons that Martin created were biologically correct — and that’s the type of detail he wants to add to his game.

Martin isn’t the only star to help out with the project — Tyson has also enlisted the help of the conceptual illustrators of games like God of War and Final Fantasy. Bill Nye and Neil Gaiman have also been name-dropped in helping create the game.

So, what’s the game all about?

According to the Kickstarter, it’ll be an action adventure game with several different galaxies. Players will build a specialized spacecraft that’ll help them navigate through different missions set in space.

Tyson’s role in the game is as a “trusted space adviser.” So, all in all, it sounds like a lot of fun.

It’s not too late to make a pledge and get involved in the game’s production. Money is being raised for development, marketing, and community outreach. If you’re willing to part with $500, an item in the game will actually be named after you. Coolest Kickstarter ever? We think so.
