A 'Game of Thrones' movie could be in our future, says George R.R. Martin
Game of Thrones swept at the Emmy’s last week, taking home a whopping total of 12 awards, but its creators are already looking forward to their next plans. Author and favorite-character-killer George R.R. Martin spoke to Daily Star at an after-party and revealed that the Game of Thrones universe will live on after the end of season eight. Guys, there’s a serious possibility that a GoT movie is HAPPENING.
Here’s exactly what Mr. Martin said: “There will be a movie but I will not be involved. I have too much to do. That is something HBO and the DB and David are dealing with.” George is referring to show writers David Benioff and DB Weiss, who are among some of the only living souls that already know how the series will end. There will be a movie. Woah. It sounds like Westeros will really be heading to the big screen. Just like HBO’s Sex and the City. Only with more swords.
Daily Star claims to have a production insider, but sometimes “production insider” means “the voices inside my head,” so I’m taking all of this info with a giant grain of salt. According to the “insider,” the movie won’t continue the story the series is currently telling, because that will end with season eight. Instead, the film may go back in time, resurrecting some of those favorite characters that were gone too soon, like pretty much half of the Stark family tree.
Now that, I believe. Maybe we’ll get to see the backstory of how Robert became king, taking over for Daenerys’ father, the Mad King Aerys Targaryen. Then, we can finally get some insight into where Jon Snow really came from – because it seems pretty obvious at this point that Ned lied about being his father.
George R.R. Martin confided that he will not be involved with the HBO movie because he’s working on the last two installments of the Game of Thrones book series. “The pressure is on,” he said. “I am such a slow writer and the fans get upset that I don’t write faster.”
What? Upset? Us? … No way.
