15 reasons to explore your city with your BFF this weekend
If you’re anything like us, when you travel somewhere new, you soak up every ounce of culture you can and learn everything there is to know about the place. We shamelessly embrace tourism wholeheartedly, because it gives us the most out of our vacation. And that’s great! But as a result, chances are you know the cities you’ve traveled to better than you know your own.
So in the spirit of summer vacation, here’s what we propose: Grab your BFF and plan a grand staycation adventure this weekend. We promise that refreshing your routine will make you appreciate your city—and your bestie!—even more than you do already. Here are 15 reasons why exploring your city this weekend with your BFF will totally rock.
1. You can finally see that thing you’ve been meaning to see.
We’re willing to bet there’s an art exhibit you’ve been meaning to see or a restaurant you’ve mean meaning to try, but you still haven’t made plans to do it. Why? Because it’s easy to put off something when it’s in your own backyard. This is your chance to finally seize the day and do it.
2. You can do totally cheesy touristy stuff you wouldn’t normally do.
Every city has touristy landmarks that most locals avoid, like the Empire State Building or the Sears Tower. But when was the last time you actually visited those landmarks? When you’re exploring your city, it’s totally okay to un-ironically embrace the cheese. The cheesier the better, we say.
3. You’ll get to take plenty of pit stops.
Let’s be honest—one of the best parts of traveling is when you take a break to refuel. But where to stop? We suggest Wendy’s. Their Honest Tropical Green Tea and FruiTea Chillers are perfect for quenching your thirst and recharging you for the many adventures ahead. FruiTea Chillers are available in two flavors: Blueberry Pineapple and Orange Mango. One for you, and one for your BFF. It’s a beverage match made in heaven.
4. You can reconnect with your BFF.
Even the best of besties need a serious catchup session sometimes. When was the last time you had uninterrupted alone time to talk about everything? During your staycation, FruiTea Chillers in hand, you’ll have nothing but time to reconnect and get all caught up. The BFF vibes will be flowing.
5. You can switch things up by taking the bus…
Try exploring the city via an alternate mode of transportation than you’re used to. If you usually drive, let the bus chauffeur you around. Or better yet, take a guided bus tour! You’re guaranteed to meet interesting people from all over.
6. … or traveling by bicycle…
Travel + exercise = true adventure. Bonus: Bicycles have cup holders for your Wendy’s FruiTea Chillers.
7. … or just forging ahead on foot.
You’ll be amazed by how quickly you hit 10,000 steps.
8. You’ll change your perspective on your city—literally.
Car, bus, bike, foot—however you change up your transportation, you’ll literally be seeing the city from new angles. That new perspective will refresh and reset your brain.
9. You’ll get some fresh air.
We encourage you to be outside as much as possible (don’t forget the sunscreen). If it starts to rain, it won’t ruin your day—just motivate you to find a new way to explore indoors in a pinch.
10. You might discover a new favorite thing.
Cast aside your local haunts and think like a tourist. You’ll discover a new favorite antique shop, a new favorite biking trail, or a new favorite drink (looking at you, FruiTea Chillers).
11. You’ll probably notice something you’ve never seen before.
When you travel somewhere new, you linger on every last detail, taking in the newness of the experience. So pretend like this is your first time seeing the city you live in. Where would you go? What would you do? Even if you walk by the Santa Monica Pier every day, walk by it with a heightened sense of adventure. You’ll see things in a totally new way.
12. You’ll also probably learn something that you didn’t know before.
No matter how long you’ve lived somewhere, there’s always more to learn. The truth is, we rarely seek out new information about our everyday surroundings. Being a tourist will prompt you to gain insight into the history and culture in your own backyard that you never knew before.
13. You’ll save money.
Vacations are fun, but they can add up quickly. When you stay in town, you won’t have to pay for airfare or a hotel. Just food, attractions (if any), and FruiTea Chillers. A staycation will be easier on your wallet, and will allow you to splurge a little on something extra fun.
14. You can take a bunch of silly BFF pictures.
No matter what you end up doing or where you end up going, you know you’ll have fun as long as you’re with your bestie. Don’t forget to snap pics along the way to make the memories last!
15. It will increase your appreciation for where you live.
It’s easy to get stuck in a routine of going to the same places and doing the same activities. But when you see your city through new eyes, it gives you a renewed sense of appreciation and pride for where you live.
