If you’re anything like me, you’ve been drinking coffee since middle school, and you need to drink at least one mug at home before meeting a friend for a morning coffee date. We’ve been told it can taste a little bitter, but at this point, our taste buds have apparently been desensitized because that caffeine fix is the only thing getting us through the day.

Although we can’t imagine life without the drink, some people have never tasted it — and you need to watch these grown people drink coffee for the very first time.

They sample americano, macchiato, espresso, and mocha — and let’s just say we don’t think any of these people are going to jump on the “don’t talk to me before I’ve had my coffee” bandwagon.

Things get off to a rough start before they even start tasting coffee — they all hate the smell.

Things don’t go well with americano, unless you consider “it tastes like soap” to be a ringing endorsement.

The macchiato gets points for at least looking pretty — but still, no dice.

And as for espresso? Oh boy. It’s “worse than any shot of whiskey” — and one person even observes that it takes like drugs. (We’re not sure what that means, either.)

Unsurprisingly, the mocha gets the best feedback, but it’s safe to say all these people really dislike coffee. Hard to understand, I know — but that just means more for the rest of us, right?
