The Honey Bunches of Oats woman has retired, and we don't know how to process this
Diana Hunter never meant to be a star — she just wanted to do the best job she could. That’s why we’re sad to see the Honey Bunches of Oats woman retire. Not only will she stop appearing in commercials, but she’ll stop working behind-the-scenes on the cereal you may have enjoyed just this morning.
Here’s a little bit about Hunter: While she entered the spotlight in a few commercials, she wasn’t an actress. She was just a smiley woman who was doing her job, and often smelled like cookies afterward. Probably known best for her hairnet, glasses, Post cereal T-shirt and big smile, she made us realize that it’s truly possible to love your job.
Here’s one of our favorite commercials starring Hunter.
In this commercial, she got to showcase her singing talent.
And we can’t forget about the time she referred to Honey Bunches of Oats as “Sparkle Flakes.” Why? Because when you eat them, you think it’s a sparkle in your eye.
The news of Hunter’s retirement was confirmed to Buzzfeed by a fellow employee. Her last day was on Friday, September 1st, which means she’s probably still figuring out how to spend her precious time off. Buzzfeed reported that according to her co-workers, Hunter was always a joy to have around work, and that she’s a “good friend that will be missed.”
We’ll always miss her smiling face when we anticipate our personal levels of hunger.
But really — every time we pour a bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats, we’ll be thinking of Diana Hunter. She truly personalized the brand, and seemed to be the sunshine that every workplace needs. Hopefully she’ll figure out a way to check in every once in awhile.
