With Christmas just around the corner, it’s officially the season of sweatpants and sweets. While it’s always fun to bake the classic recipes that your grandma passed down to you, it’s also fun to spice things up a little — literally. And Taylor Swift’s Chai Tea Eggnog Cookie recipe is the perfect way to add a twist to the classic sugar cookies you’re used to eating this time of year.
Taylor Swift is basically a Christmas Princess. (Of course, she can’t take the title “Christmas Queen,” because that’s reserved for Mariah Carey, aka Ms. “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”) But Swift has a long history of doing charitable deeds during the holidays. Swift recently bought a house for a fan that had been homeless and pregnant. And last year, she surprised a veteran with an at-home Christmas performance. Even though she’s done a lot of good in the world, there’s only one Swift, and she can’t go around to everyone’s houses spreading holiday cheer. That’s where Taylor Swift’s Chai Tea Eggnog Cookie recipe comes in.
One great way you can spend the holidays with Tay is by baking her Chai Tea Eggnog Cookies. Swift shared the recipe on her Tumblr in 2014 in a post that has since been deleted. Luckily, the internet saved the receipts, because Swift’s recipe needs to go down in history like Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.
On her Tumblr post, Swift told fans to have fun with her recipe “Cause the bakers gonna bake bake bake bake bake,” according to BuzzFeed.
Referencing the lyrics to her song “Shake it Off,” of course. The singer included a credit in her recipe, saying, “If you want to make the cookies from scratch (that’s what I did for the 1989 Secret Sessions), you can use this recipe I found on a baking blog I like, joythebaker.com and I believe it was originally from a book called The Pastry Queen.”
She also explained why she decided to add some seasonal spice, writing, “I added the chai element to the recipe because I thought it would infuse cozy holiday vibez into the cookie and it really did.”
Taylor Swift’s Chai Tea Eggnog Cookie recipe is easy to make, so you can have a happy holiTAY.
According to Swift, you simply make the sugar cookies per the Joy the Baker’s instructions, but with a special addition. After you add the egg and vanilla, you can crush up the chai tea leaves and add them to the batter. As Swift wrote on Tumblr, “CHAI COOKIES ARE ABOUT TO HAPPEN UP IN HERE.” Sounds good, Tay Tay. The icing instructions also have a special Taylor Swift twist.
“Mix 1 cup powdered sugar with 1/4 T-spoon of nutmeg, 1/4 T-spoon of cinnamon and 3 TAYblespoons…of milk or eggnog,” she wrote on Tumblr. Excuse us while we sing “You Belong With Me” to these cookies.
Swift had one final piece of advice regarding the icing.
“The more milk/eggnog you add, the more icing will become a glaze,” she continued. “But glazes are legit too so basically just LIVE YOUR LIFE.”
Thanks to Taylor Swift’s sage advice and nutmeg sprinklings, this is a recipe for success. Now, do as she says and “live your life!” While eating delicious holiday cookies, of course.
