Starbucks is working to create a human-free coffee ordering experience
You know the saying, “Don’t talk to me until I’ve had my coffee”? Well, that’s becoming even more of a thing, thanks to Starbucks. The coffee company is testing out a store where you can only order and pay for your coffee with your mobile device. While Starbucks stores accept mobile ordering, this will be the first Starbucks to use mobile ordering exclusively. Is this the best or worst thing that has ever happened to humanity??
When Starbucks launched mobile ordering, where you can just pick up your coffee and start your day while barely speaking to another human, in 2015, life was good. However, the success of mobile ordering has actually led to longer lines.
Starbucks is trying to solve the line problem with this mobile-order-and-pay-only test store.
If you want to try this glorious order-free zone, you’ll have to be in Seattle — andddd an employee of Starbucks — since the mobile-only store will be on the eighth floor of the Starbucks headquarters. It will be located across from the current Starbucks headquarters store and it will take all the mobile orders from the employees in the building.
If this test location is a success, then perhaps there will be exclusively mobile stores popping up in other places, which means you may never have to talk to a barista again. (No offense, baristas, we love you!)
Well, you know, except when it comes time to pick up your order. Then some talking will be required, but you’ll be rewarded for your words with coffee very quickly.
