There's a new Sprite flavor, and it's about time
It doesn’t get as much attention as it deserves, but Sprite is one of the best soft drinks to ever be created. We’ve loved it ever since we were kids, and now we have a brand new Sprite flavor to get excited about. Meet Sprite Cherry and Sprite Cherry Zero. The classic flavor of Sprite is lemon-lime, so this new fizzy drink will have a cherry twist on it. There’s already a Cherry Coke and Cherry Coke Zero that we love (and the Young Pope loves as well, apparently), and there’s even a Cherry 7 Up, so we have high hopes for this new Sprite.
The inspiration for Sprite Cherry came from Coca-Cola Freestyle soda machines, which fans used to create their own cherry-flavored Sprite, using Cherry Coke and classic Sprite. Without these devoted Sprite drinkers we may never have been gifted with this cherry variation. Thank you, soda angels.
Bobby Oliver, director of Sprite and Coca-Cola North America, said in a statement, “It was a huge ‘a-ha’ moment for us.” They had no choice but to listen to the people.
Sprite Cherry and Sprite Cherry Zero are available right now in stores nationwide in 20 oz. PET bottles. Get out there and see if you like the drink yourself. “There’s proven data that people actually love it,” Bobby told Buzzfeed. We have a feeling we’ll love it as soon as we try it. If you need us, we’ll be at the nearest store stocking up on our new favorite soda.
