Dinner and a movie is a date night staple, usually involving eating out at a restaurant and catching a movie at the theater. But when you’re in a lazy, homebound mood, dinner and a movie works just as well for a date night in (thanks, Netflix!). And one new “date night” cookbook is filled with surprisingly simple recipes for an intimate meal for two.

The Date Night Cookbook, by London-based food photographer/videographer Rebecca Warbis, is a collection of recipes for DIY “date nights.” The book has nine chapters, each of which includes several recipes for a specific, themed date. Everything from “breakfast in bed” to “dining in Paris” and even “dusk beach date” is represented in the gorgeously photographed (seriously, it’s positively Pinterest-worthy) cookbook.

One theme in particular that caught our DIY-loving eye was “indoor tent night,” perfect for a cozy night at home. It’s described by Warbis as “a great date for a special evening,” covering anything from “the initial ‘Where are we at?’ chat” to a marriage proposal. Though the book is technically date-oriented, single ladies don’t have to miss out on the noms — these fun, yummy, and (most importantly) simple recipes work just as well for a girls’ night in your apartment.

Fondue to Share (15 minutes)

Fondue seems like one of those insurmountably difficult and way fancy dishes that’s made to be enjoyed at a fine-dining establishment only. But surprisingly, this recipe requires only very basic ingredients — and takes hardly any time to prepare!

Ingredients: 350 grams cheddar cheese; 100 grams mozzarella; 2/3 cup (145 ml) milk; pinch dry mustard; pinch nutmeg; 1 clove garlic; 1 large loaf bread, pretzels, or breadsticks, to serve

1. Grate both cheeses and add to a saucepan on the stove, melting gently. 2. Stir continuously, slowly adding the milk. 3. Increase the heat by half again and, when the mixture is bubbling, stir in the dry mustard and nutmeg. 4. Keep stirring until the fondue is thick and creamy. 5. Halve the garlic clove and rub it around the inside of the fondue pan. This flavors the cheese really well! 6. Light the fondue candle, and, when the pot on top is warm, add the mixture. 7. Serve with bread cubes, pretzels, or breadsticks for dipping.

Campfire Potato Bowls (1 hour, 20 minutes)

This is basically a gourmet, camp-y take on the classic loaded potato, and we’re so here for it. Drool.

Ingredients: 2 large baking potatoes; 4 eggs; 2 thin slices bacon; 1 tbsp butter; 4 cherry tomatoes; handful pine nuts; 1 tbsp fresh parsley; salt and pepper

1. Preheat the oven to 390°F and pierce the potatoes all over. Cook for one hour on a greased baking tray. 2. When cooked, the potatoes will be soft and slightly squishy. Leave to cool. 3. Halve both potatoes then scoop out the middles, leaving the edges around half an inch thick. Try not to break the skin. 4. Crack the eggs one by one into a pouring jug and then pour the yolks and enough white to fill each potato to the brim. 5. Fry the bacon in the butter, then slice and scatter over the top of each potato half with sliced tomato, pine nuts, and parsley, then season with salt and pepper. 6. Bake at 355°F until the eggs are cooked.

After-Dinner S’mores (15 minutes)

End your date night (or girls’ night) right with this daintier take on a campfire dessert standard.

Ingredients: 12 pink and white marshmallows; 12 sweet tea biscuits; 6 squares of chocolate

1. Thread the marshmallows onto skewers and toast them over a fondue flame. 2. Sandwich two marshmallows between two biscuits. Repeat until all your ingredients are used up. 3. Melt the chocolate in the microwave or on the stove then drizzle a big scoop over each s’more.
