On April Fool’s Day 2016, Kit Kat Japan played a cruel prank on us — the company released an advertising campaign for the release of a (fake) new sushi kit that featured exotic chocolate flavors on top of rice balls. Needless to say, it was soul-crushing to learn we wouldn’t actually be able to indulge in this delicacy. But, today we rejoice — because Kit Kat sushi is an actual thing now, and we assure you it’s not a joke this time.
People were so enthused by the prospect of chocolate and sushi rolled into one delicacy that a Kit Kat specialty store will open its doors in the Ginza district of Japan and it’ll offer up a variety of unique dishes made with the chocolate candy — including Kit Kat sushi.
The store will offer the dish in three flavors — Maguro (tuna), Tamago (egg), and Uni (sea urchin). Maguro consists of raspberry-flavored Kit Kat on puffed rice covered with white chocolate and Tamago is pumpkin pudding-flavored.
The Uni option sounds especially intriguing — melon- and mascarpone cheese-flavored Kit Kats are wrapped in seaweed for a very chocolatey dish.
