I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that back in 2005, Zoey 101 was everyone on the planet’s favorite show. (OK, if you were under the age of 14.) It followed Zoey, played by Jamie Lynn Spears, and her friends as they attended the Pacific Coast Academy in Malibu. Sometimes it seemed like Zoey was living the dream, and that had a lot to do with her will-they-wont-they love interest, Chase. The show loved to tease us, going as far as having Zoey put her true feelings in a time capsule that we wouldn’t see until ten years later.

Ten years later was back in September, and the show released a mini reunion video that kind of gave people a resolution. This video claims that Zoey did have feelings for Chase, her full message being:

But when it comes to the actual script, what was really supposed to happen? Yesterday, Jamie Lynn Spears decided to clear the air. She told the Huffington Post:

What?? There wasn’t anything at all?

Spears has her own opinion about how the show should have ended, saying, “I always assumed that Zoey and Chase would end up together.” But this choose-your-own-ending result wasn’t good enough for dedicated viewers. Spears says she still gets people asking her what happened. “Everyone always asks me what I put in the time capsule,” she explained. “I’m like, ‘It’s a show, I didn’t put anything!'”

I guess that makes sense, but it certainly won’t stop me hoping there’s a video out there of Zoey’s true feelings, and one day we’ll stumble across it. Maybe the show actually meant they should open it twenty years later? I’ll wait.
