One of the best things to do when you get home from a long day of work is to curl up on the couch with a cup of delicious hot chocolate. There is something about the warmth, combined with the creamy chocolate, that just takes all the chills and stress away. Hot chocolate just makes you feel like a happy-go-lucky kid again!

But, if we’re being honest, packaged hot chocolate doesn’t really cut it when we are looking for a super delish cup of tasty goodness! Now that we’re adults, we want something with more flavor.

via giphy Thankfully, there are a lot of ways to elevate the taste of packaged hot chocolate! Whether you’re starting off with a home-blended cocoa recipe or you want to build up the flavors of a packaged hot chocolate mix, curling up on the couch with a cup will be a gift to your taste buds.

Dutch hot chocolate is one of the best if you’re a big fan of muted vanilla and chocolate flavors, plus it’s easy to make.

Subscription box curators, Love With Food, has an amazing recipe for Dutch hot chocolate! It’s available on their free e-book, and it’s simple to make.

What you need:

2 tablespoons Dutch-processed cocoa (like Droste)

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 teaspoon vanilla bean paste or extract

1 2/3 cups of milk

Whipped cream or marshmallows for serving

What you do:

Mix the cocoa, sugar, vanilla, and a splash of milk into a smooth paste in a bowl. Pour the remaining milk into a saucepan and place over low heat until it just begins to boil. Whisk the hot milk into the chocolate mixture. Ladle the cocoa into serving cups. Top with dollops of whipped cream or marshmallows and serve immediately.
