You’ve probably heard that European chocolate bars taste better than the ones you can find at any CVS stateside (it’s arguably true, since European chocolate tends to have a higher fat and cocoa content), but is there other European candy that’s better than American sweets? And why does it all taste so damn good?

We set out to investigate and found 10 European sweets that have our American offerings beat every time. Don’t be mad at us — we still love American treats! We’re just giving you another reason to take that end-of-summer Euro trip you’ve been dreaming of.

This British chocolate bar is simple, but positively scrummy (as former Great British Bake-Off judge Mary Berry would say). It’s made from milk chocolate (the yummy Euro kind) and pockets of air — and that’s all. Really. But Aero is light, perfectly sweet, and provides just the right amount of pick-me-up for when you’re zonked in the afternoon. Buy some on Amazon for $10.47.

Not the sugary round American kind — in the U.K., Smarties are small chocolate dots coated in a crunchy, colorful, sugary shell. Sound like M&Ms? Pretty much, but they come in a wider range of colors, are a bit smaller, and include that delicious British chocolate. Get a bag on Amazon for $19.99.

3Kinder Surprise

Banned in the U.S. because of laws against candy with toys inside, Kinder Surprise eggs (from Italian brand Ferrero) are made from milk and white chocolate that’s so GD creamy, you *almost* won’t notice the prize.

Good news for chocolate fans, though: A different version of Kinder Surprise, called Kinder Joy, is coming to the U.S. next year.

4Mars bar

A British candy bar, Mars bars are similar to our Milky Ways, but they’re made with a rich, buttery, soft caramel and a hint of nougat, and coated in creamy milk chocolate. Find a six-pack on Amazon for $4.75.

5Prince Polo

A light, crispy wafer surrounded by dark chocolate? This sweet treat from Poland is reminiscent of a Kit Kat, but with that fattier, tastier chocolate Europe is known for. Find a box of these sweets on Amazon for $29.95.

A German offering, Milka chocolate bars are tender in the center for a satisfying snack experience. Find a box of 10 on Amazon for $18.98.

7Ptasie Mleczko

This Polish treat, which translates to “bird’s milk,” consists of a fluffy, marshmallow-like meringue center enrobed in rich chocolate. Find it on Amazon for $10.95.

8Mr. Fizzy

These fizzing hard candies were born in Ukraine, and we’re still trying to figure out why they haven’t made their way stateside just yet. Lucky for you, you can get ’em on Amazon for $10.59.

It may sound unappetizing, but this Swedish chocolate bar is filled with soft caramel. Can you ask for anything better? Shop it on Amazon for $8.59.

Direct from France, each of these chewy caramel candies contains a joke on the inside of the wrapper — and they’re usually delightfully (and somewhat painfully) bad. Get your hands on a bag here, for $12.30.
