It’s December 17th, and you know what that means. Eight days until Christmas, yes, but also, it’s National Maple Syrup Day! That’s right, today we’re celebrating one of Buddy the Elf’s main food groups.

Although dumping it all over a plate of plain spaghetti may not seem particularly appetizing, there are some unexpected ways you can use this delicious syrup-y goodness in some awesome winter meals, desserts, and even drinks. Check out all the ways you can celebrate Buddy the Elf’s favorite food on National Syrup Day.

Maple Syrup Fondue

OK, so maybe this one actually does sound like we’re taking a page out of Buddy’s book — dipping everything in syrup. But honestly, there’s nothing better in this world than fondue, and imagine the beauty of dipping cheese and apples in maple syrup fondue. Unfffff.

Maple Pork Poutine

Even though maple syrup may be super sweet on its own, it’s perfect for the savory dish, too. Take pulled pork — or even better, pulled pork on top of fries for the perfect poutine dish.

This recipe takes a bit of creativity. You can find the recipe for maple pulled pork here, and then improvise with any toppings you’d like for some seriously delicious poutine.
