This is the most caffeinated drink at Dunkin' Donuts
When it comes to coffee, you can’t mess around. Whether you need a caffeine fix right this very minute or a little mid-day boost, knowing how much caffeine you’re actually consuming is pretty important. And although there are many delicious, fancy coffees out there, any coffee connoisseur has to admit: if you need a cheap cup of Joe, Dunkin’ Donuts offers the best bang for your buck. So you don’t have to waste any time at the counter (or pick the wrong thing), we did some sleuthing and turned up the most caffeinated drink at Dunkin’ Donuts for you. If you add a donut hole, you get an extra sugar rush, too. What’s not to love?
Although most Dunkin Donuts locations are franchises (which just means that the company leases the management to an individual owner) the coffee at the all-American donut joint is the same across the board nationwide. This means you always know what you’re going to get from the Dunkin’ gods.
If you’re looking for a hardcore caffeine buzz, there are a few options on the Dunkin’ Donuts menu, but you have to be a real regular to get the ultimate caffeine fix.
Try ordering a large coffee with a turbo shot.
SO! You might not know this, but if you want to add some oomph to your coffee, you can ask for an added espresso shot, known as the Turbo Shot at DD, and essentially have them craft you your very own red-eye coffee. It’s not a secret menu item, but it’s also not advertised all over the place. Basically, it’s a solid pro tip. Who needs an artisanal coffee shop now?
But remember: coffee is tricky. Depending on the brewing time, the amount of caffeine can vary cup to cup at different times of the day. Which is exactly why adding a “Turbo Shot” is a surefire way to get everything you need. This delicious coffee cocktail has almost 400 mg of caffeine, which is almost more than the recommended amount of caffeine per day, according to the Food and Drug Administration. Coffee rookies, beware.
You could also try an iced coffee.
If you’re really looking for a caffeine rush, the best way to go is a plain, huge coffee. If you can’t take it piping hot, a regular iced coffee is your second best bet. You can add the Turbo, but it might warm up your brew since most Dunkin’ Donuts locations are pretty low key and will just dump the hot espresso into your cold cuppa joe. When you’re in need, though, you have to make sacrifices. No judgement here.
Or just order anything with espresso.
When you want something a little more than just plain coffee, any of the drinks that have a shot of espresso in them, like a latte or cappuccino, are your brand new best friend for a midday pick me up. As long as your tummy is cool with some milk.
Definitely skip the Coolatta, though.
Dunkin’ Donuts’ Coolattas are signature, full of amazing calories, and downright delish. But if you want caffeine, they won’t do all that much for you with just 23 mg of caffeine per drink. If you’re just looking for something to sip on during a break from work and want to *feel* like you’re having coffee, go for it.
Here’s a weird idea: Try a decaf coffee.
We know what you’re thinking: how can decaf coffee be a caffeine-filled beverage? Well, Dunkin’ Donuts’ decaf coffee actually has about 74 mg of caffeine in a cup. More than that Coolatta, we’d like to note. If you’ve been told to stay away from caffeine, do not get a decaf from Dunkin’ — it actually has more caffeine than the decaf at other fast food chains. Yeah, decaf is never really decaf, by the way. Our minds were blown, too.
As a rule of thumb, if you really need caffeine, it’s best to keep it simple (and under a few bucks, which is always nice). Any drink at Dunkin’ that has more than two words in its name is not worth it if you’re trying to balance calories and caffeine. But who says you can’t ask for a little whipped cream on your plain old iced coffee? Just be nice to the cashier, please.
