After having a really, really rough day, sometimes you just want to go to the store, buy a pint of Half Baked, plop on the couch, and dig in with a spoon. Unfortunately, those who cannot eat dairy, or who choose not to eat dairy, have not been able to participate in this soul-healing ritual. But lactose-intolerant and vegan lovers, you can take comfort in the fact that this will soon be changed, because Ben & Jerry’s is working on non-dairy flavors, and they hope to have them available in the U.S. by spring of next year!

According to a statement on the Ben & Jerry’s website, this WAS going to be a surprise, but the cat’s outta the bag. “So many of our fans have been asking us to carry a non-dairy product, we couldn’t keep the secret anymore,” said a rep. “We can confirm that it’s true. . . well, that is, if we don’t eat them all ourselves first.”

So what now? What non-dairy ice cream chunks are we going to spoon out like professional excavators? No word yet from the men upstairs.

“We’ve been working on this for quite a while, and want to make sure these flavors live up to what Ben & Jerry’s is known for: enormous chunks, delicious swirls and a commitment to values-led ingredient sourcing,” a rep for the company explained in a statement.

Ben & Jerry’s also encouraged those interested in more information to sign up here to get updates on non-dairy flavors. Done and done.

We’re SO excited for these new options and we’re totally curious what base the company will be using to replace the dairy “foundation.” Will it be coconut milk? Almond milk? According to one Ben & Jerry’s exec, it’ll definitely be one of the two.

Either way, major props to Ben & Jerry’s for listening to our ice cream needs. You’re always there for us, boys. <3
