I tried the BRRR-ito, Ben & Jerry's magical ice cream burrito
On this day, and this day only, Ben & Jerry’s is offering something incredible: a limited edition concoction called the BRRR-ito. (Get it?) This magic dessert consists of two scoops of ice cream, wrapped in a waffle taco, topped with fudge and cookie crumbles. Ben & Jerry’s boasts that the BRRR-ito is the ultimate way to cure a case of the munchies, and that it would only be available in Scoop Shops all day April 20th. There’s even a buy-two-get-one-free deal if you bring some friends! Upon hearing this news, I obviously headed to my nearest Ben & Jerrys to give it a try.
At 11:40 a.m., my nearest Ben & Jerry’s was pretty empty. There were no signs indicating the existence of this alleged BRRR-ito, so I worried for a moment. But when I asked the cashier, she knew exactly what I wanted.
The first step? Choose what two flavors I wanted to put inside the beast. I went with Cookie Dough and Chocolate Therapy, and watched the magic happen.
She handed over my BRRR-ito and recommended I grab some napkins. I have to say, it looked a lot more like a crepe than a burrito.
After a quick photoshoot, it was time to give it a try.
Taste? Incredible. Difficulty of consuming? Worth it. While I started out using the waffle-crepe as a kind of pouch from which to scoop the ice cream, I eventually gave in and ate it how Ben and Jerry intended: like a burrito. This, unsurprisingly, led to a mess, but I was eating ice cream for lunch, so what did I care?
A braver soul than I might have been able to finish the Ben & Jerry’s BRRR-ito, but once I made my way down to the bottom, I was left with a chocolatey, soupy mess.
After asking the HelloGiggles office if they wanted any of the leftovers (“No.”) I threw out what I couldn’t eat and sighed, my belly filled with enough ice cream to last me until Ben & Jerry’s next great invention.
