For those of us obsessed with fall and/or food (that covers pretty much the entire population of the universe, right?), a delicious, easy recipe that gives us autumn vibes makes us even happier than the smell of a fresh PSL. Imagine a sandwich that combines the flavors of fall – all the apples, all the cinnamon – and ooey gooey cheese.
Now stop imagining. That sandwich is real.
Feast your eyes (and tastebuds) on the apple pie grilled cheese, a sammie so delightful that it is neither a dinner nor a dessert. It’s sweet and savory, it’s seasonal and classic; It’s basically so unique that it can’t be classified.
Is your mouth watering yet? We won’t torture you. Here’s the recipe so you can make this masterpiece in your very own kitchen:
Apple Pie Grilled Cheese
1 gala apple
4 tbsp brown sugar
3 tbsp of butter
2 slices of bread
Put butter and brown sugar in pan over medium high heat.
Sauté until sugar is completely melted.
Peel, core, and slice apple and add to mixture.
Stir over medium heat for about 20 minutes, or until apples have completely softened.
Remove and set aside.
In a clean pan add a tablespoon of butter and toast one side of each slice of bread.
Flip, and place several thin slices of cheddar on top of one piece of toast, then spoon out caramelized apples over the cheddar.
Add thin slices of gruyere and then top with second piece of bread (toasted side down).
Cook for 2-3 minutes and then flip and cook the second side.
Remove from heat and serve.
Cheese will be CRAZY hot.
Let it cool, then enjoy!
