From the zoo: These Golden Lion Tamarins sure like to monkey around! They are native to Southeastern Brazil and spend most of their time in the air, staying 5-20 feet above ground to avoid predators. Golden Lion Tamarin Cam is in partnership with Zoo Atlanta. Zoo Atlanta is dedicated to inspiring visitors to value wildlife and to help safeguard species through conservation. Best time to watch: 7:00 pm – 7:00 am ET for nest cam viewing! Fun Facts:

  • Golden lion tamarins have a number of features that are atypical for the Order Primates.
  • Their thumbs are not fully opposable and their hallux (big toe) is located back from the other digits (similar to a bird’s big toe) and retained its flat nail.
  • Unlike most New World primates, golden lion tamarin tails are not prehensile.
