8 Innovative Ways To Eat A Grilled Cheese
Hi, my name is Gina and I’m a Grilled Cheese Addict. Add a cup of creamy basil tomato soup and I’m in heaven. Grilled cheese sandwiches are easy to make, and they’re saturated with the good stuff, like butter and cheese. The thing about grilled cheese sandwiches though, is that they’re really void of any nutrition. Bread and cheese isn’t exactly superfood. Also, bread and cheese can get kind of old after awhile.
However, just by adding a few extra ingredients, you can create yourself a way more interesting sandwich.
Here are some ideas that you can try out for yourself if you’re ever in the mood for a grilled cheese (and let’s face it, when are you not?)
1. Balsamic Blueberry Grilled Cheese
Are you a fan of sweet and savory things? The thing about cheese, is that it goes with almost anything. Fruit, honey, wine, whatever. Marrying cheese to blueberries may be the most genius thing I’ve heard of. The spinach is also a healthy addition that adds texture and subtle flavor to this sandwich. Find the recipe here.
2. Spicy Mini Meatball Grilled Cheese
It’s-a-spicy-meat-ah-ball, you guys! Okay, sorry, I’ve had way too much coffee. This grilled cheese is cheesy, meaty, and delicious. Kind of like eating spaghetti and meatballs but even better.
3. Jalapeño Popper Grilled Cheese
Wanna add some spice to your sandwich? This recipe calls for three whole jalapeños, bacon, goat cheese, and apricot preserves. The latter sounds out of place, but the apricot actually holds all these flavors together and nicely emphasizes the creamy goat cheese and smokiness of the bacon.
4. Broccoli Ham Grilled Cheese
I love broccoli and how versatile it is. If I’m feeling bored with whatever it is that I’m cooking, I’ll just toss in some broccoli florets and voila! A wonderfully green creation is made. The same goes for grilled cheese. This recipe calls for ham, but you can do without if you prefer.
5. French Onion Grilled Cheese
Even though kissing someone may not be the best plan after eating this hunk of yum, this grilled cheese is entirely worth it. I love onions, so sautéing some and adding them to my melt sounds mouth-watering. Find the recipe here.
6. Grilled Goat Cheese with Fig and Honey
Much like the blueberry grilled cheese I posted, this recipe also depends on the combination of sweet and salty. The fig and honey are super sweet, but the goat cheese, lemon, and basil balance those flavors out.
7. Grilled Gruyere and Olive Tapenade Grilled Cheese
I usually eat olive tapenade with pita bread or mix it into pasta salad, so the idea of combining it with cheese and two slices of bread TOTALLY makes sense. The recipe calls for gruyere, which isn’t a very strong cheese (it’s like a light Swiss). That way, you can really taste the olives. Find the recipe here.
8. BBQ Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese
When I think of summer, I basically think about BBQ. Who has time to wait for summer though? Make yourself a BBQ grilled cheese with pulled pork (it’s super easy to make in a Crock Pot) with your favorite BBQ sauce (I love Sweet Baby Ray’s), and coleslaw.
