There comes a time in every single person’s life where they ask themselves: Do I want to try online dating? The number of dating apps available make it easier than ever to give it a whirl. There are apps that let the women be in charge, and apps that help you find your perfect political match. But how many dating apps is too many? Is there such a thing?

The experts have weighed in and make some great points. Some agree that focusing all of your energy into making connections on one app is best.

“I don’t think it’s great to be on too many apps when it comes to dating,” Sexologist and Relationship expert Dr. Nikki Goldstein told Bustle. “If you are going to pick more than one app to increase the pool of people you get to choose from, know that this might only add to the confusion and distraction.”

On the other hand, what if the perfect person for you is out there — just on a different app? Other experts agree that spreading the love between two or three apps increases your chance of finding the one.

“In my opinion more than three dating sites is too many. Any less than that and you are missing out on potentially perfect matches who may be on other sites,” Dating Consultant at Ghosting Buster Emily Taffel told Bustle. “However, too many sites and it becomes sensory overload.”

So, what’s the magic number? How many dating apps is the right number of apps? Ultimately, that’s up to you to decide. Still, there’s one thing the experts agree on — trying new things is always good.

“Try for apps that have a point of difference,” Goldstein advised. “Many people who are on apps are on multiple ones, so you want to pick apps that are different to gain access to new people.”
