Emma Watson has finally weighed in on Noma Dumezweni's casting in 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child'
Hermione Granger has spoken. And according to Hermione Granger, she’s so excited to see the new Hermione Granger up on the stage, and we can’t agree more. 2016 is going to be Hermione Granger’s year.
Last month, the cast for Harry Potter stage play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, was announced. The events of the play will pick up some time after the epilogue of Deathly Hallows, and find our favorite trio — Harry, Ron, and Hermione — as middle-aged wizards. This means that the faces we’ve come to know for these characters are going to be completely different, and in Hermione’s case, extra amazing. That’s because, thanks to some brilliant color-blind casting, woman of color Noma Dumezweni has been cast as Hermione.
Rowling was the first to hail the casting choice as magnificent (and mentioned on Twitter that she even watched Dumezweni workshop some scenes as Hermione). Harry Potter stars Matthew Lewis and Evanna Lynch also chimed in, echoing Rowling’s praise the casting choice. Now, Hermione Granger 1.0 has commented on Dumezweni casting, too. And she loves Hermione Granger 2.0.
Taking a quick break from saving the world, Watson tweeted out her own support for Dumezweni in 140 characters or less. Keeping it short and simple, she states she can’t wait to see Dumeaweni on stage, followed by 13 hearts.
Dumezweni tweeted back at Watson stating that she looking “forward to experiencing Hermione too.”
Now just imagine the photo that’s going to happen when Hermione finally meets Hermione, and how our little Hermione-loving hearts might not be able to handle it. Just thinking about it makes mine want to brust.
