Taylor Swift may have eschewed Spotify, but one of her besties hasn’t — and he is reaping the rewards.

Ed Sheeran, the poet laureate of our hearts and the most streamed artist on Spotify last year, just reached another milestone. He is the first artist to achieve 500 million plays on the streaming platform for his song “Thinking Out Loud.”

The slow, bluesy ballad has been ubiquitous at weddings, high school dances, and ‘Netflix and chill’ sessions, a fact that Sheeran is well aware of.

In a statement released with the notification, he said, “Chuffed to hear that ‘Thinking Out Loud’ has had half a billion plays on Spotify. Being the first artist to hit that milestone is amazing. Thanks to all the people who use this as a wedding song, soundtrack to a date and as a way to woo someone into a Netflix and Chill situation.”

But we bet you can’t guess how much money 500 billion streams equates to. Even on a platform that has been criticized for not paying artists too well, Music Business Worldwide calculated that at $.007 per stream, 500 million comes out to about $3.5 million.

Not a bad chunk of change, Ed.
