We can all agree that elementary school was THE BEST, right? There were class pets, delicious snacks packed in our vibrant lunch boxes, and yes – there were pen pals. As a kid, there’s nothing more exciting that writing a letter to another kid who lives somewhere else in the world. It’s like a school-approved adventure!

Drew Barrymore knows exactly what we’re talking about, based on this throwback photo from 1982:

As she cleans out her old storage locker, Drew Barrymore is (thankfully) taking her Instagram followers along for the ride. Now, we know that back in 1982, Drew wasn’t only starring in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial – she was also telling her pen pal all about her blonde hair, taking jazz, and swimming.

“I am happy with my life just the way I am” has to be our favorite line.

Now that she has her own daughters – Olive (3) and Frankie (2) – maybe Drew will start a pen pal tradition. After all, she’s already giving them all her old paints and kaleidoscopes:

Now, just imagine how much that pen pal letter is worth nowadays.
