Six days until Christmas. Can you believe it? But if you’re not really in the holiday spirit, what better than an absolutely gorgeous Christmas tree to get you singing Christmas tunes? Luckily, Jody Grenier has got you on this one.
Jody, an amateur photographer, was passing by the tree in the early morning of November 30th when he snapped a shot in downtown Syracuse of the city’s Christmas tree, posting it to Facebook at the beginning of December. It’s so dreamy and gorgeous that it doesn’t even look real — but that ethereal quality is due to happenstance, he said.
“”I got out (of my car) and some rain had fallen onto my lens,” he told Syracuse.com. “. . . I didn’t wipe my lens clean, hence the effect of the picture. If you look closely at the picture, you’ll see all those rain spots and a kind of a soft mistiness to it. That’s actually me forgetting to wipe my lens off.”
He only edited the picture slightly, just to reduce the contrasts and enhance the shadows, then posted it onto Facebook. But he had no idea what was about to happen. “I wanted the tree to stand out just a little bit,” he said. “By the time I got to work, 800 people liked it.”
Now, the photo has over 2,000 likes, 250 comments, and almost 5,000 shares, and it’s rapidly being shared all over the world now that it’s getting closer to Christmas. Because really, what puts you in the Christmas spirit more than a magical Christmas tree in the wee hours of the morning? And although Jody is thrilled with the response to his shot, for him, it was a happy accident. “Basically, the shot was a mistake,” he told Syracuse.com.
Or maybe. . . just maybe. . . a Christmas miracle.
