You don't need a Costco membership card with this genius hack
Love Costco, but can’t afford the membership? You’re in luck! You can get Costco grocery items through Instacart and totally get around paying the fees! Instacart is a delivery service (find out here if it’s available where you live) that gives you grocery delivery options based on your location. If you live near a Costco, you can get your groceries from there through Instacart and boom! No $60 yearly membership fee. Not only are you saving money, but you are also saving the time it takes to shop! Who doesn’t love to save time and money? If you didn’t raise your hand, you’re probably lying. 😉
Shopping at Costco — while can financially be smart — can be incredibly time consuming. You basically have to make a day of it (which is fine, because free samples!) because there is just so much to see. And eat. It’s easy to get lost inside of a big box store like that, and it’s also easy to buy a ton of stuff you don’t need, therefore spending MORE money, regardless of how much you’re saving. Do you really need the five pound tub of cookie dough? No, but it’s a steal, as are the giant boxes of wine and snacks.
Instacart as a service is free, you just have to pay a delivery fee and tip your shopper. However, they operate in a similar fashion to Uber; they have surge pricing during peak delivery times — so think about when you really need that delivery. You’ll probably want to avoid weekends if you’re using the service to save money. A couple of peak delivery windows would probably come out close to the price of your yearly Costco membership. But you would still be saving yourself the hassle of having to go shopping. Because let’s face it, who doesn’t love shopping in the comfort of their pajamas? Welcome to the Costco Club, friends!
