What's closing at Disney World to make way for "Star Wars" Land
Ahead of the highly anticipated Star Wars Land, Disney World has to close down some long-standing attractions in Hollywood Studios. Thought it’s always sad to see some of our favorite things go, just think about how AMAZING it’s going to be in a few short years when we can actually book a vacation to a galaxy far, far away.
According to the Disney Parks Blog, construction on this new area is expected to begin soon. Star Wars Land is going to take over the the South side of the park — or if you’re standing in the park, it’s going to take over much of the left side. Though its actual boundaries haven’t been confirmed, some space will be taken from the Lights, Motors, Action Extreme Stunt Show. It’s the big attraction that’s closing, and its last show will be on April 2nd, 2016.
Along with the Stunt Show, the neighboring Streets of America are also going to say bye-bye. Originally, when Hollywood Studios first opened in the late ’80s, this area was used as an actual working back-lot and a few movies, TV shows, and commercials were filmed in the space. However, lately it’s become an area to meet your favorite Disney Characters. Soon, it sounds like it will become Tatooine/Endor/Hoth.
As of right now, these are the only two confirmed things closing in in the park, but more than likely they won’t be the last. While this announcement is all about Star Wars, have you forgotten about the fact there’s also a Toy Story Land going in, too? That’ll be located at the back of the park, near where Toy Story Midway Mania is currently standing.
It’s always sad to see things go, but at least some new amazing Disney magic will be coming our way soon.
