This movie we were all obsessed with in 2000 is finally getting a sequel
Netflix has already won us over with the continuation of some of our favorite shows (Arrested Development, next year’s Fuller House, the upcoming Black Mirror). But what about movie sequels? Well, they’re about to dive right into that, and the first one up is a long-standing favorite from 15 years ago. Netflix is giving new life to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and this new trailer is giving us life.
Released back in 2000, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon followed warrior Yu Shun Lien (Michelle Yeoh) as she tried to find the stolen Green Destiny sword. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny once again finds her trying to find the sword before it falls into the wrong hands. And no, she doesn’t sound to thrilled to be coming out of retirement for this.
But, if there’s anyone who can get it back, it’s her. Just like the first movie, directed by Ang Lee, there are a ton of mid-air swordfights and breathtaking views. Lee isn’t returning to direct this one — that job has gone to fight choreographer Yuen Woo-ping, who’s worked on the stunts from The Matrix and Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2. With a resume like that, we’re gonna guess he knows what he’s doing (and he’s also directed roughly 30 martial arts films out of Hong Kong). The movie also stars Donnie Yen (from Ip Man and the upcoming Rogue One) and Glee’s Harry Shum Jr.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny starts streaming on Netflix on February 26, 2016. But, if you’re someone who needs to see this action as big as possible, you can catch it out on select IMAX theaters on that same day. Check out the first trailer below.
