The best moments from our 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' UCB show in LA
Last week, we teamed up with The CW’s new series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend for a night of storytelling about Exes and Woes at the UCB Franklin Theatre in Los Angeles. Just like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend — which premieres Monday, October 12 at 8/7c — the show was all kinds of amazing, and perfectly tackled all matters of love and heartbreak.
To start off the night, host and Crazy Ex star Rachel Bloom regaled us with an amazing story about her attempt to lose her virginity freshman year at NYU — and the unexpected “first” experience she had instead.
From there, the night remained just as incredible. First up, our girl Joselyn Hughes told us about the time her boyfriend called her crazy; and the prank she played on him in response in order to show him what “real crazy” looked like. (Let’s just say it involved a bloody wedding dress and a Cabbage Patch doll.)
Up next, Danny Jolles confessed that, while attending Rachel’s recent wedding, he found himself nearly brought to tears for the first time in ages. As he explained it, the wedding had caused him to reflect on what love really means — and why we always pursue it, no matter how awful and stupid it may be sometimes. Danny talked about his model ex-girlfriend and the awkward hook-up culture of weddings; and brought everything full circle by story’s end.
Things started to get a little too real when Gilli Nissim took the stage and talked about her first time getting to third base. Self-conscious and unsure of how to make the experience more comfortable, she opted to try out some body spray — in an area of her body that body spray is not meant for, if you catch our drift.
Last but not least, music wunderkind Scout Durwood graced the stage and did her best ten-minute set about the time she accidentally started dating two people at once. As if that weren’t already compelling enough, she turned the whole thing into a mini-musical! Charming and unbelievably funny, Scout had the whole audience falling head over heels in love with her from the start.
As we learned at our UCB show, there’s no such thing as a fun breakup — but that doesn’t mean a breakup can’t lead to some funny stories. Check out the premiere of The CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend on Monday, October 12 at 8/7c for even more relationship giggles!
