The celebrity polar plunge we only wish we were there for
The concept of “polar plunges” always seemed so exciting to me. Sure, jumping into frigid water may seem insane on the surface, but there’s something so great about totally diving (pardon the pun) outside of your comfort zone for the sake of charity.
But add in Lady Gaga and Vince Vaughn, and that’s totally a recipe for a huge FOMO moment.
That’s right, Lake Michigan was full of frigid celebs at the Chicago Polar Plunge yesterday, according to Chicagoist. Last year, Jimmy Fallon jumped in with the mayor of Chicago, effectively raising over $1 million for Special Olympics Chicago. This year, over 4,500 fearless souls—including Chicago Fire stars David Eigenberg, Randy Flagler, and Taylor Kinney—joined in, along with Vaughn and the one and only Gaga.
The best part? Gaga’s attendance was a total surprise. “She’s pure heart,” Casey Hogan, president of Special Olympics Chicago and its fundraising arm Special Children’s Charities, told the Chicago Tribune. “She came out for the cause — low-key, no press. It doesn’t get any better than that.”
Oh, and if you haven’t heard, Kinney and Gaga are engaged, and they’re totally adorbs, as evidenced by photos from the event on North Avenue Beach:
Vince was also looking pretty fly in a Blackhawks jersey:
They even caught Vince’s plunge on camera:
Seriously, major FOMO here, guys.Photos via
