Cara Delevingne had the perfect response to a man who told her to "get a real job"
Cara Delevingne is truly a Renaissance woman — at just 24 years old she has cemented her status as one of the most recognizable supermodels in the world, while also having an acting career, and ALSO being an outspoken advocate for those struggling with mental illness. Girl wears a ton of hats. And she’s not afraid to speak her mind, so when one internet troll told her to “get a real job” on Twitter she had a pitch-perfect response.
Delevingne tweeted that she was on her way “to do something incredibly exciting and I am very nervous” when one Twitter follower wrote a very rude tweet back, saying, “Hopefully, an interview for a real job. Your looks will fade, Cara. You can’t cash in on your eyebrows forever.”
Instead of ignoring the comment, Delevingne took the opportunity to school the troll in a series of impassioned tweets. She first tried to shut him down by telling him that she was “trying to do something good” that had nothing to do with her “looks” (yeah, girl!). She added, “You are just a another thirsty man who puts people down for attention on twitter and who thinks that looks are all that’s important.”
She then invited him to “grow up and look at the bigger picture. Maybe try read a book or do something actually worthwhile,” to which he accused her of only caring about looks. Delevingne was having none of this, responding: “Try doing something for the world, period! I have no time no [sic] another man trying to tear down a woman for being successful.”
Instead of simply apologizing (or ending the tweet spree), the Twitter troll kept going, and Delevingne said, “one day, you will realize that tearing people down is a true reflection of your insecurities. For that I am sorry.”
Delevingne stopped responding directly to him, but then tweeted her final response: “Sarcasm is such a beautiful thing. Sarcasm in Latin means to tear the flesh.”
Later on, she revealed that she had flown to Uganda to work with UNICEF and help girl refugees, which is incredible and so admirable. As for her social media scuffle? We applaud Delevingne for not putting up with online bullying in any manner, and she handled it in the most badass way. Slow clap for Cara!
