A Facebook photo of a woman's belly 24 hours after giving birth is making an important statement
Pregnancy is a roller coaster all on its own, but the moments after giving birth are perhaps the most life-changing of all. That’s what one mom is teaching us with her honest and raw post that is making its way around the Internet.
Sakura Bloom, a fashion retailer that specializes in baby slings, recently shared an absolutely beautiful post from mom Erica Andrews that is going viral because of its beautiful depiction of the miracle of birth. Alongside a picture of Erica displaying her body 24 hours after giving birth, wearing an adult diaper with her baby in a sling, she wrote:
But it’s not just her body that feels different, Erica explained. “I feel raw. Emotional. Different,” she wrote. “I feel like I’m on the undulating surface of the rippling ocean being tossed back and forth between happiness, gratitude, melancholy, and grief.”
Giving birth is perhaps one of the biggest — and most beautiful — transitions of all, Erica wrote:
The post has garnered over 19,000 shares and 78,000 likes, with thousands of people commenting expressing their appreciation for Erica’s honesty coupled with her unbridled joy for her new baby.
“I was never this brave,” wrote one commenter. “To open myself up and show my post-partum body? Never. I felt hideous but I look at you and see how beautiful you look. . . Wish I hadn’t been so shallow. I created [two] miracles, I should’ve been proud of what my body did.”
Giving birth isn’t sitting radiantly on a hospital bed, holding your newborn like it is in the movies. It’s hard, and it’s messy, but it’s beautiful, too. Thanks, Erica, and many, many congratulations. <3
