Anderson Cooper just did something amazing to honor a fallen police dog
The Internet is weeping with happy and sad tears after Anderson Cooper donated a whole ton of money for an absolutely beautiful cause.
This week, the Norfolk Police Department in Virginia has been mourning the loss of Krijger, a K-9 officer who was fatally shot after he was sent to investigate a man who had barricaded himself in his house with a gun. “It is with heavy hearts we announce the loss of a loyal and dedicated member of the Norfolk Police Department,” the NPD wrote in a Facebook post honoring Krijger. “. . . He served NPD for three years and faithfully gave his life to protect ours. Rest in peace, Krijger. Your work is done, but never forgotten.”
The post was shared over 60,000 times and got the attention of hundreds of thousands all over the world — including one man who had the means to change the lives of dedicated police dogs. After hearing about the loss of Krijger, Anderson Cooper decided to donate enough money to get each and every dog a vest at the Norfolk PD.
Each vest costs approximately $2,200, which can add up quite a bit when you have over a dozen dogs on your team. “[Anderson] wasn’t keen on me publicizing his donation, but I told him I was going to do it anyway,” Jimmy Hatch founder of the Norfolk-based charity that had launched a campaign in Krijger’s name, told The Virginian Pilot. “He’s such a good dude. And genuine.”
