Get ready to say awwwww. A 14-year-old high school freshman in California won the Internet this week when he mowed lawns in his neighborhood for just $5 a pop so he could take his girlfriend on a date.

While Cody Mitschelen was going door-to-door searching for customers, he knocked on the door of Ryan Cox. Ryan’s lawn didn’t need mowing, but he was curious about why Cody wanted to earn money. When he found out the boy just wanted to take Audrey Fierro, his girlfriend of six months, out on their first official date, he caved (as the rest of us totally would have done). Ryan went door-to-door with Cody and helped him drum up business. He was so impressed with the boy that he snapped a photo of him in lawn-mowing action and posted it to Facebook, where it’s since gone viral with almost 100,000 shares.

In the caption, Ryan wrote that Cody “busted his ass mowing lawns and sweeping sidewalks and made enough to take her to lunch and get her flowers. I’m so happy this still exists… Hope is still alive for the future generation and our sons and daughters. I’m impressed by whoever is raising this boy, great job!!! Thanks to you guys that also noticed and pitched in on the cause to building our future men!”

Awwwwww! (We knew you would say it.)

Cody’s local newspaper, The Modesto Bee, reported that he indeed bought Audrey flowers (which he gave to her at the bike stand at school…SO MUCH CUTENESS) and then took her to a pizza parlor for their first real date. The good people at Safari Pizza had heard about how hard Ryan worked for the meal, so they decorated the table with candles and a tablecloth. We can’t lie….we’re getting a total Lady & the Tramp vibe here, and we love it.

Safari Pizza also treated the couple, so Cody got to use his lawn money to take Audrey on a second date to Baskin Robbins, where Ryan dropped by to say hi.
