Liam Hemsorth and Miley Cyrus donated $500,000 to help those affected by the California fires

Since Thursday, November 8th, firefighters have been working tirelessly to contain fires in both Northern and Southern California. As of November 13th, over 7,000 structures and thousands of acres have been destroyed, and more than 40 people have been killed. The Woolsey Fire is reportedly only 40% contained as of the 13th, and about 50,000 structures are still in immediate danger. Meanwhile, the Camp Fire in the north is the deadliest wildfire in state history. Although winds gave firefighters a brief reprieve from the growing flames, forecasters aren’t seeing any rain on the horizon until around Thanksgiving.

However, it’s important to remember that there are so many helpers stepping up during this devastating time. According to CNN, celebrities Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus have donated $500,000 to The Malibu Foundation via Cyrus’ charity, Happy Hippie. Their donation, along with others, will be put toward “those in financial need, emergency relief assistance, community rebuilding, wildfire prevention and climate change resilience,” a Malibu Foundation statement read.

The couple personally lost their entire home in the Woolsey Fire.

Sandra Bullock also reportedly made a donation of $100,000 to The Humane Society of Ventura County.

If you’d like to donate to those in California, you can do so via The Malibu Foundation, the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Relief Fund, the California Fire Foundation, and, of course, the American Red Cross. And if you’re in the area, make sure to listen to officials and follow instructions to keep yourself and others as safe as possible.
