Liam Hemsworth has strong words about Australia’s same-sex marriage vote
If you haven’t heard the news, Australia is currently in the midst of a vote on quite an important issue — same-sex marriage. And in order to support his home country, Liam Hemsworth sounded off on same-sex marriage in a way that’ll make you cheer. Hemsworth took his words to Instagram, and likely encouraged a bunch of his fans to get out there and vote.
Hemsworth, who’s currently in a relationship with singer and actress Miley Cyrus, noted that he feels like having to vote on such an issue is a little silly, because marrying someone you love should be a human right. And we have to agree.
"I believe it's a HUMAN RIGHT to be able to marry the person you love regardless of gender," Hemsworth said. "To all the Australians that care about equality and human rights please say YES to same-sex marriage. Let's not be silly about this."
Australians will be voting by mail. The ballot they’ll receive will only include one question — “Do you support a change in the law to allow same-sex couples to marry?” From there, they can check off “yes” or “no.”
As of right now, same-sex marriage is not allowed in Australia, so this would be a huge deal if enough Australians say yes.
Surveys went out on September 12th, and they’re expected to be returned by October 27th. Afterward, we’ll learn how Australia as a country stands on the big issue.
As for Hemsworth, we’re so glad that he supports same-sex marriage. And we’re even happier that he’s reminding his home country how important each and every vote will be.
