A death on “The 100” is sparking intense fan rage

Thursday night’s episode of The 100 was a big one. If you haven’t watched the episode, titled “Thirteen,” don’t read any farther—major spoilers ahead.

Wow. That was a roller coaster of emotion. Just when Lexa and Clarke, you know, get intimate with each other, tragedy strikes: Lexa is shot by Titus. We hadn’t seen Clarke this happy since, well, ever, and now all of those good feelings are taken away from her in a flash and replaced with the saddest ones you can imagine. “I don’t want the next commander. I want you,” she tells Lexa on her deathbed. Cue the waterworks.

Fans were, of course, shocked. Upset. Outraged. They felt betrayed. When a character dies on a TV show there’s always chatter about the event, but after Lexa’s death, viewers took their grief to the next level and poured their hearts out on Twitter.

Some fans are sharing some seriously deep thoughts about the episode.

Some are just straight up pissed.

One fan even shared a petition to bring back Alycia Debnam-Carey, the actress who plays Lexa.

Unfortunately, we don’t know if that’s entirely possible. The 100 showrunner Jason Rothenberg says that Lexa’s death is, ultimately, a matter of real world logistics with the actress.

“Hopefully the audience will realize we’re talking about an actress who’s starring in another show, so I really didn’t have a lot of options,” Rothenberg told Entertainment Weekly. “She was only available to us for seven episodes this season—and beyond that, maybe never again available to us.”

Of course, he’s referring to Alycia’s role in Fear the Walking Dead. We get it, but that doesn’t mean we like it. This fan sums up what we’re all thinking: We’re still not okay.

“The decision to kill that character was made a little bit easier by the fact that I knew we weren’t going to get to play with Alycia Debnam-Carey anymore,” Rothenberg continued. “Hopefully, people can forgive me. If they can’t, I understand that, too.”
