Leslie Jones responded to the new all-male Ghostbusters reboot—”It’s insulting”
On January 16th, Sony announced another Ghostbusters remake, this time with an all-male cast. Jason Reitman—son of OG Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman—is set to direct the new installation, which, according to Entertainment Weekly, “will follow the trajectory of the original film”…meaning that it will ignore the events of the 2016 Paul Feig-directed all-female Ghostbusters reboot. Not surprisingly, this news was met with a massive side-eye from many camps—including one from Leslie Jones, who starred in the 2016 installment.
In a January 19th tweet, Jones called the all-male Ghostbusters remake "so insulting," writing, "It’s like something trump would do. (Trump voice)' Gonna redo ghostbusteeeeers, better with men, will be huge. Those women ain’t ghostbusteeeeers' ugh so annoying. Such a dick move."
She later added, “if they make this new one with all men and it does well which it will. It might feel that ‘boys are better’ it makes my heart drop.”

It’s very sad that this is response I get.When the point is if they make this new one with all men and it does well which it will. It might feel that “boys are better”it makes my heart drop. Maybe I could have use different words but I’m allowed to have my feelings just like them

In his defense, Reitman championed the 2016 film in his press release about his new project, stating, “I have so much respect for what Paul created with those brilliant actresses, and would love to see more stories from them.”
Despite Reitman’s good intentions, we have a strong feeling that Jones is right: Ignorant trolls and certain less-than-evolved movie-goers will turn this into another battle-of-the-sexes, undermining all that was accomplished in the 2016 all-female remake. Additionally, pretending that the latest movie doesn’t exist is a huge slap in the face to its legitimacy in the franchise.
Basically, we’re not against another Ghostbusters remake…but we are against one that so blatantly ignores the most recent addition to the Ghostbusters universe.
