This couple is demystifying lesbian sex with a book about haikus and cats
While sex may be a huuuge topic of conversation in our culture, there’s a lot of taboo surrounding lesbian sex, specifically. That’s exactly why one couple is working together to start a conversation about sex between women. . . using haiku and super cute cats.
Writer Anna Pulley and her girlfriend, illustrator Kelsey Beyer, are the creators of The Lesbian Sex Haiku Book (With Cats!), which is described on Amazon as “haiku paired with hilarious watercolor illustrations of cats in various stages of sexual awkwardness,” the book aims to “enlighten, demystify, remystify, and most importantly entertain” while teaching about “all the aspects involved in girl-on-girl action.”
If you love the drawings of anthropomorphized felines in various states of coitus, the prints are for sale on Etsy:
The haikus tackle everything from family members who don’t accept queer sexual identity (“No one ever says / that you ‘just haven’t met the / right ham sandwich yet’”) to details about getting tangled in the sheets (“When lesbians say / ‘all night long,’ they do not mean / forty-five minutes”).
Anna told Refinery29 that she hopes The Lesbian Sex Haiku Book (With Cats!) will give readers “a sense of camaraderie, a sense of ‘Oh, that’s happened to me, I totally understand that, I know what it’s like to be in a long-term relationship, I know how awful it is to date on OkCupid or Tinder.’”
Anna and Kelsey first worked on the series for The Toast and immediately got picked up by publisher. The book was published in April of this year and is available on Amazon.
“Also, if the queer ladies are listening,” Anna told Refinery29, “I do want them to just ask the girl out already. I feel like that’s a big, big thing that we just don’t do, we just like, cower in a corner and hope that someone makes the first move — that’s not going to work!”
We totally love this awesome, inspiring, and adorable way to demystify a totally normal and healthy part of LGBTQ sexuality. Plus, who doesn’t want more cute cats in their lives?
