Leonardo DiCaprio brought the best date to the Oscars
Where Leonardo DiCaprio and the 2016 Oscars are concerned, the only question we have aside from “Will he finally get this well-deserved accolade, for The Revenant?” is “Who did he bring as his date?” And now we know. It’s not anyone he may or may not be seeing, and it’s (sadly) not his BFF, Kate Winslet (though they did get to hang out some on the carpet). It’s—be still our hearts—his mom, Irmelin Indenbirken.
“I grew up in East Los Angeles, and my parents took me to auditions every day after school,” DiCaprio told Live from the Red Carpet host Robin Roberts after noting he came with his mother. “And they listened to me—they listened to this kid who was overly ambitious and said he wanted to be an actor. I always felt not a part of the industry, but they sort of forced me in there because they listened to a young child’s dream…I could never be more thankful.”
This isn’t the first time DiCaprio has brought his adorable mom as his date to the Oscars. He also did so in 2014. She was also his date to the BAFTA awards just two weekends ago, where he took home the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, he told the crowd exactly why his mom was there.
“I would not be standing up here if it wasn’t for this person,” DiCaprio said in his acceptance speech. “This woman drove me three hours a day to a different school to show me a different opportunity. It’s her birthday today. Mom, happy birthday. I love you very much.”
We can’t think of a better way to spend a birthday!
Oh, and for those of us who are wondering whether Leo and Kate will give us any beautiful moments to look upon? Don’t worry—they’ve already posed for photos, and we’re happy to report that they continue to give us all the friendship goals.
We can’t deal with how adorable they are, and can barely contain the excitement over the inevitable moment they’ll have if DiCaprio does win (fingers crossed).
How sweet is it that DiCaprio’s mom and BFF—who was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award, for Steve Jobs—are there? We’re all rooting for you, Leo, and we’re glad you have such amazing women by your side to be there to cheer you on in our stead!
