Leonardo DiCaprio bought Julia Roberts’ vintage SUV for charity because he’s just that kind of guy
Leonardo DiCaprio is now the proud owner of a 1967 Toyota Land Cruiser that used to belong to Julia Roberts and her husband Danny Moyer. Yup, Leonardo DiCaprio threw down $100,000 for the SUV during Sean Penn’s annual pre-Golden Globes J/P HRO Haiti Relief Organization gala at the Montage Beverly Hills, E! News reports. DiCaprio is a regular attendee of the event; last year, DiCaprio donated $100,000 for a guitar once-owned by Bono. false
DiCaprio also spent $125,000 on a custom piece of art by California artist Ed Ruscha, and the event was expected to raise $4 million for HRO, E! reports. Other things on the auction block included a dress worn by Madonna during her Rebel Heart tour ($80,000) and a private acoustic concert with Nick Jonas ($80,000) who joked during the event, “I bet we can auction off a Jonas Brothers reunion that might go well.” UM, PLEASE???
Vocal about issues like climate change, DiCaprio doesn’t shy away from being an activist and generous donor. He was recently in the news for honoring President Obama’s most memorable moments in a White House video alongside celebrities like Kerry Washington, Ellen DeGeneres, and Tom Hanks.
DiCaprio will hopefully put the pretty sweet car to good use (maybe like he did with a certain car in Titanic…?). And though it’s for a great cause, it’s nice to think of Leo pining for a piece of JR memorabilia — stars, they’re just like us.
