Lena Dunham subtly supported Planned Parenthood with her Met Gala dress

Even if it’s fashion’s biggest night of the year, showing your support for an organization you love is always appropriate. A current example: At last night’s Met Gala, Lena Dunham showed her support for Planned Parenthood by wearing a PP pin tucked within the folds of her gown. She posted a photo of her tiny-but-potent fashion statement on Instagram, and her fans applauded her.

Dunham captioned her Instagram post, "Details #plannedparenthood 💪."

The Girls creator and actress walked the Met Gala red carpet in an Elizabeth Kennedy gown, styled by Christina Ehrlich. The Planned Parenthood pin looks to be located on Dunham’s chest, just beneath the black accent neckline.

Dunham and fellow Girls writer and showrunner, Jenni Konner, both sported Elizabeth Kennedy fashion. Kennedy’s collections are handmade in the New York City Garment District as an effort to support American-made designer fashion.

In January of 2017, Dunham released a short animated documentary about the history of Planned Parenthood. She gathered together a handful of influential celebrities including Mindy Kaling, Jennifer Lawrence, and Meryl Streep, to tell the story of Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood.

She then teamed up with Omaze to sell her “Don’t Hang Up The Gloves” shirts and gave the proceeds from the shirts to the Planned Parenthood Education Fund.

And Lena Dunham isn’t alone in her crusade to help Planned Parenthood. According to Vanity Fair, Emma Stone and Dakota Johnson also wore the Planned Parenthood pins to the Oscars in February.

If one has the platform to inspire others to support a cause, making a meaningful fashion statement truly is all about the details.
